Over the past couple weeks, fall has…well…fallen on many regions of the US. For some of us, however, it feels like winter is right on autumn’s heels.
Here, in Chicago, a wintery chill made for a very fast (and very cold) marathon last weekend and our ski and snowboarding friends out west are already enjoying the first granules of powder at A Basin.
While we will hopefully still have more beautiful crisp running days ahead, we know that treadmill season is not far away. This week, for our Moji Motivation video, we want to share a classic video that speaks to those of us who have already turned indoors for our runner’s high.
Here’s to entertaining cold weather workouts and good tunes. Who knows, after enough miles on the mill, maybe we’ll all look that good in bright red skinny jeans…or whatever slightly more dialed-down version of pants you choose to wear.
Congratulations to all of those athletes who finished the Chicago Marathon and Kona this weekend – we hope you enjoyed the wild adventure that is an endurance event of that caliber.
For a split second this morning, you might have thought that the magical moments of yesterday’s competition were nothing more than a dream…that is until you tried to move.
For those of us feeling that sweet pain of accomplishment today, we need not wear our medals or race shirts to let people know that we gave it our all yesterday. Our wincing faces and zombie-like stiffness are indicative enough of the miles we pounded race day.
This video from the 2007 London Marathon celebrates that special post-race ache in a most hysterical manner. In fact, it will make you laugh so hard you’ll cry – if not from the British humor, than certainly from the sharp pains you’ll feel in that core of yours with each giggle and guffaw. So, reach…out… slowly…delicately grip that mouse and click below for some comic relief.
With this weekend’s Chicago marathon and Kona Ironman upon us, we were inspired to post this legendary Nike commercial. In this short film, Nike is, as always, brilliant and The Killers are, well, just that.
The video, entitled “Courage”, powerfully depicts the strength and determination required for great athletic achievement. It also shows that this achievement comes at a price – hard work, sweat, and sometimes failure. Great athletes must have the willingness to push beyond physical limitations and the mental fortitude to truly believe in the impossible.
Whether this marathon/triathlon is your first or your fiftieth, whether you are looking to finish, qualify, or PR, there is an achievement to be had and you too must be willing and strong. As the video states, you have what you need to get there inside. The question is:
Do you have the courage to dig deep and set it free?
Inspiration for staying active is found in athletes of all shapes and sizes – a wide receiver who nabs that oh-so-perfect shoestring catch, an overjoyed tee-baller after her first big hit, and certainly these incredible father/son triathletes (who, incidentally, are pretty much the real deal Mandelbaums; except when it’s “Go Time” for these guys, they win Ironman World Championships. Brockenbrough! Brockenbrough! Brockenbrough!)
However, as evidenced by this stunning video, inspiration doesn’t always have to come from mainstream sports. Danny MacAskill, who rides for the aptly named Inspired Bicycles team, does stunts that other bikers have never imagined possible - maybe never imagined, period. He approaches bike riding with unparalleled determination, skill, and artistry. With these talents and a truckload of imagination, Danny transforms the streets of Edinburgh into an urban obstacle course and skillfully battles gravity, reason, and probably local law enforcement.
As kids, our own imaginations turned community ice rinks into Olympic arenas and backyard tosses into Super Bowl winning throws. These fantasies gave us endless energy and the drive to pursue our dreams. (To be fair, they also caused us to do some stupid things, which led to bumps, bruises and broken bones.)
Whether they are racing the Las Vegas Triathlon, Augusta Ironman, Lake Tahoe Marathon…or just love getting really pumped for a weekend of football, this is sure to bring a smile to any sports enthusiast’s face.
