MOJI OVERVIEW:
It is no surprise that runners motivation to keep training in Northern climates drops precipitously as soon as the dreary weather hits. For the average person, the discomfort of cold and wet conditions is enough to keep people indoors through Spring. What may be surprising is the number of athletes that do find a thrill in uncomfortable chills – enthusiastic individuals who find the extreme nature of such conditions fun and exhilarating. The question then becomes, how does the average athlete learn from these weather-insensitive individuals. Kolata’s article suggests that following the cold-lovers lead is all about mindset. Through anecdotes from athletes and interviews with medical professionals Kolata shows how to get going in the worst of weather.
